As if New Orleans really needed another reason to throw a party.
The New Orleans Saints gave their city its best reason in long time to celebrate as they defeated the Indianapolis Colts 31-17 in Superbowl XLIV.
The underdog Saints looked like they could get blown out early in this contest, as the Colts opened the first quarter with 10 unanswered points. The Saints were able to rebound, however, and overcame the Colts stopping them on fourth and goal towards the end of the half. They were able to control the ball during the second quarter and earned two hard fought two...
Sunday's Superbowl XLIV in Miami pits the Indianapolis Colts against the New Orleans Saints and is already being touted as one of the best matchups in league history-and the game hasn't even been played yet.
Based on the spectacular seasons that both of these teams delivered, we have no reason to expect that this game will be anything other than the high-scoring, entertaining affair that we're all hoping for.
Both teams have outstanding quarterbacks, in Peyton Manning and Drew Brees, as well as plenty of targets to throw to; but the winner of the game is more than...
Peyton Manning was near perfect in leading the Indianapolis Colts to a 30-17 victory over the New York Jets yesterday and into the Super Bowl for the second time in four years.
Manning threw for 360 yards and made use of his less well known receivers, Austin Collie and Pierre Garcon, to lead his team back from an 11-point deficit.
It looked as if the Jets would be able to pull off yet another upset early on, particularly after Mark Sanchez's 80-yard touchdown pass to Braylon Edwards in the first quarter. However, despite the Jets' hot start, the Colts kept their cool...
Everyone thought that the Indianapolis Colts would be playing in this Sunday's AFC Championship Game when the season started. As for the New York Jets, that's another story.
Sunday's game is rematch of the last time that the Jets played in the Superbowl in 1969 (before the AFL-NFL merger). During that lone Superbowl appearance, the most famous Jet of all-time, Joe Namath, lead New York to a 16-7 upset against the Baltimore Colts.
Since that victory, the Jets have been for the most part irrelevant. They've been notorious for not living up to expectations and have...
Peyton Manning and crew snapped out of their bye-week slump as the Indianapolis Colts beat the Baltimore Ravens 20-3 Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
Manning had been 0-3 in the playoffs when not playing on Wild Card weekend. The four-time NFL MVP threw for two touchdowns, but it was the Colts' defense that stepped up and forced four turnovers to secure the win.
The Ravens' two interceptions and two fumbles kept them from ever mounting any serious effort even though they had almost as many yards as the Colts (270 for Baltimore and 275 for Indianapolis)....
This week's four games look to provide better match ups than last weeks', where we saw three out of four games that weren't close.
In the NFC, both games look like they could be playofff gems on paper.
First off we have the Arizona Cardinals visiting the New Orleans Saints in the Superdome at 4:30 PM ET today on FOX. These two teams can throw the ball better than almost anyone else, and after Arizona allowed the Green Bay Packers to score 45 points, the slumping Saints have to be licking their chops.
After reeling off thirteen wins to start the season, New...
Peyton Manning today became the first player to win the NFL most valuable player award four times.
The Indianapolis Colts quarterback won in a landslide. Manning got 39 1/2 of a possible 50 votes, with second place going to New Orleans QB Drew Brees.
Manning, who also won in 2003, 2004 and 2008, had 4,500 passing yards and 33 touchdowns for the 14-2 Colts.
It’s still too early for the ’72 Dolphins to break out the champagne.
Both New Orleans and Indianapolis remain unbeaten at 13-0, and fans are salivating at the idea that the teams could meet in the Super Bowl with perfect records. Only one NFL team – Miami in 1972 – has ever finished with an unblemished record, which the old Dolphins mark each year with celebrations as soon as the last undefeated team falls.
On Sunday, the Saints set a franchise record for wins in a season Sunday with a 26-23 victory over Atlanta. The Colts, meanwhile, set an NFL record...
