Lady Antebellum was the big winner Sunday night at the Academy of Country Music Awards, with the pop/country trio taking home five awards, including vocal group of the year.
But Carrie Underwood – as she so often does – stole the spotlight. Underwood became just the second woman to twice win the ACMA’s Entertainer of the Year Award, which is voted on by the fans. Earlier in the evening she was recognized with a special award for having won the ACM “triple crown” – entertainer of the year, top female vocalist and top newcomer.
Meanwhile, Miranda Lambert ended Underwood’s three-year run as female vocalist of the year, and...
Barbra Streisand said what everyone at the Kodak Theatre seemed to be thinking Sunday night.
"Well, the time has come," Streisand said as she presented the Academy Award for Best Director to Kathryn Bigelow, the first ever Oscar for a female director.
Bigelow, who wears a red Wounded EOD Warrior bracelet on her left wrist, had downplayed her chances of an historic Oscar win all throughout awards season. But after locking up the prize, the woman behind The Hurt Locker couldn't help but acknowledge the moment.
"I hope I'm the first of many, and of course, I'd love to just think of myself as a filmmaker. And I long for the day...
The Hurt Locker, a powerful Iraq war drama, won the award for Best Picture and five more Oscars on Sunday night, including best director for Kathryn Bigelow.
Bigelow is the first woman ever to win an Academy Award for best director.
"There's no other way to describe it. It's the moment of a lifetime," Bigelow said.
The Hurt Locker stood out in a crowded Best Picture field that for the first time in more than 50 years included 10 nominees. The film, the lowest-grossing film ever to win the top Oscar, also won awards for original screenplay by Mark Boal, film editing, sound editing and sound mixing.

First-time winners Sandra Bullock and Jeff Bridges won lead actor awards at Sunday night's 82nd annual Academy Awards, each earning a standing ovation and plenty of love from their Hollywood peers.
Bullock won her Oscar for her portrayal of a suburban mom who takes in a homeless black teen in The Blind Side, just a day after taking home the Razzie for worst actress for her role in All About Steve -- an industry first.
"Did I really earn this or did I just wear y'all down?" joked Bullock, who rose to fame, but never this kind of critical acclaim, with mid-90s box-office hits like Speed and While You Were...
Two actors who got their first big Hollywood breaks last year took home the supporting Oscars on Sunday night.
Mo'Nique, known more for her stand-up comedy and slapstick appearances on UPN's The Parkers before transforming into the abusive mother in Precious, won best supporting actress at the 82nd annual Academy Awards.
"I would like to thank the Academy for showing that it can be about the performance and not the politics," Mo'Nique said. She added that she is grateful to Hattie McDaniel, who in 1939 became the first African-American actress to win an Oscar, "for enduring all that she had to so I would not have...
Oscar night has finally arrived and fabulously dressed celebs have made their way down the red carpet at the Kodak Theatre.
Anna Kendrick stopped by E! and told Ryan Seacrest that her gorgeous blush Elie Saab gown was actually a last-minute decision. When Seacrest asked how her Twilight costars were reacting to her nomination, Kendrick said, "Everyone's been so excited and supporting," the actress replied, saying she had seen Kristen Stewart at the BAFTA Awards a week earlier, and Taylor Lautner just the night before.
When asked how she felt about being the rumored favorite for the best supporting actress...
Adding to an eventful week in London, last night's ELLE Style Awards 2010 took a little time to honor the year's most fabulous and fashionable.
"Woman of the Year" honoree Kristen Stewart showed some serious leg in this geometric Emilio Pucci minidress. The night before she was honored with the "Orange Rising Star" award at the BAFTAs.
Naomi Campbell continued to honor the late Alexander McQeen by donning another dress from his...
The CEO of Taylor Swift's record label has heard the critics -- and is firing back.
TIred of hearing about Swift's sub-par performance at the Grammys on Sunday, Scott Borchetta of Big Machine Records told the Associated Press that his multiplatinum star had a "technical issue" during both her solo and her duet with Stevie Nicks. The performances were panned by critics and the Twitterverse alike.
Borchetta told the AP that Swift had a "volume problem" with her earpiece and couldn't hear herself like she could during rehearsals.
Besides, he said,...
What was the worst film of 2009? According to the Razzies, it’s a close race to the bottom between a box-office hit and a flop.
“Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” and Will Ferrell’s “Land of the Lost” each were nominated seven times for Razzie Awards, more than any other movie.
“Transformers” was the No. 2 highest-grossing film of the year, with $400 million collected at the box office.
The Razzie Awards “honor” the worst films and performances of the year, and it doesn’t matter how big a star you are. Among the fan...
Was it the promise of TV in 3D, the devotion to Beyonce or Taylor Swift, or the certainty of seeing some Lady Gaga outrageousness?
Whatever the reasons, ratings for Sunday night's Grammy Awards were up 35 percent over last year, according to Nielsen's fast overnight numbers.
The Grammys scored an audience of about 26.6 million for CBS, which would make it the highest number of viewers since 2004. The 3.5-hour show had a 9.8 rating and a 24 share among viewers 18-49.
Forget your 3D glasses last night? Millions of Grammy viewers did too.
Target distributed about 14 million 3D glasses in advance of the Michael Jackson tribute at the Grammys, but that still meant close to half the viewership was left lenseless for the 3D event, the first ever for a TV awards show.
Those viewers were still treated to the vocals of Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson, Smokey Robinson, Usher and Celine Dion, but were certainly distracted – and more than likely, very surprised – by the fuzzy, strangely-colored video accompanying the song.
The 3D event was a collaboration of American Paper Optics, Target and Sony. It...
