Barbra Streisand said what everyone at the Kodak Theatre seemed to be thinking Sunday night.
"Well, the time has come," Streisand said as she presented the Academy Award for Best Director to Kathryn Bigelow, the first ever Oscar for a female director.
Bigelow, who wears a red Wounded EOD Warrior bracelet on her left wrist, had downplayed her chances of an historic Oscar win all throughout awards season. But after locking up the prize, the woman behind The Hurt Locker couldn't help but acknowledge the moment.

The Hurt Locker, a powerful Iraq war drama, won the award for Best Picture and five more Oscars on Sunday night, including best director for Kathryn Bigelow.
Bigelow is the first woman ever to win an Academy Award for best director.

Sandra Bullock may be up for Best Actress at the Oscars tonight for her role in The Blind Side, but she's not above a little self-deprecating fun.

One of the producers of the The Hurt Locker, an Academy Award nominee for best picture, has apologized for an email sent out to voters encouraging them to vote for his independent film over "a $500 million film."
Yes, that was a slap at Avatar, and The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences was none too pleased. The producer, Nicolas Chartier, also went as far as to suggest that voters rank his film No. 1 and Avatar No. 10.
