Spring has arrived and floral prints are popping up all over the place.
Before you back away imagining overdone patterns in too many pastel shades, rest assured that the seasonal staple has been updated with a dose of modern edge this year.
Making their debut on the runway last fall (at the Derek Lam, Cynthia Rowley and Rebecca Taylor shows just to name a few), this season's modified floral prints--which relate more closely to a modern generation of Impressionism than your grandmother's window treatments--have now made their way into the wardrobes of celebrities and onto the racks of department stores everywhere.
Unlike traditional floral print patterns, this season's hybrids take on a computer generated techno-feel, giving the classic look a modern feel.
Jessica Biel got in on the trend this week wearing a seasonably chic floral print shift by Thakoon to the premiere of documentary Summit on the Summit: Kilimanjaro.
Jessica got it right by keeping the pattern small, and freshening her floral look with an asymmetrical hemline and chic black blazer.
Tina Fey also took to the streets of New York recently to showcase her budding fashion chops in this computer-created print by Derek Lam. The pattern is bold, but the understated colors keep the look light and fresh.
The trend can also take on a more formal feel. Ashley Greene was the picture of elegance as she made the rounds at Milan Fashion Week late last month wearing this floral print dress to the Dolce & Gabbana show. Add a pair of heels and tousled up-do, and this look is red carpet ready.
