Nicolas Chartier may win an Oscar on Sunday night as a producer of The Hurt Locker, but if he does, he'll have to pick it up later.

Chartier has been barred from attending the 82nd Annual Academy Awards after sending a series of emails that promoted his film while slamming big-budget blockbuster Avatar.

In a press release titled "Academy Penalizes Aggressive Campaigner," officals announced Chartier's punishment, noting that Academy rules prohibit “casting a negative or derogatory light on a competing film.”

The Academy "stopped short of recommending that the Academy governors rescind Chartier’s nomination," according to the release.
