A new survey says Hawaii is now the happiest state in America, beating former No. 1 Utah for its collective feelings of well-being among residents.
Utah is still smiling though, along with Montana, Minnesota and Iowa, which round out the top five.
Gallup-Healthways surveyed more than 350,000 Americans for its Well-Being Index in 2009, asking for input on their overall life evaluation, emotional health, work environment, physical health, healthy behavior and ease of enjoying a healthy lifestyle.
The top 10 (100 being a perfect score):
Hawaii: 70.2
Utah: 68.3
Montana: 68.3
Minnesota: 67.8
Iowa: 67.6
Vermont: 67.4
Colorado: 67.3
Alaska: 67.3
North Dakota: 67.3
Kansas: 67.2
The complete list is here. West Virginia is ranked the least happy, with a score of 60.5, nearly two points lower than No. 49 Kentucky (62.3).
