Apple finally unveiled its long-rumored tablet computer today, ending years of speculation by introducing a device that bridges the gap between a notebook computer and its groundbreaking iPhone.
The name: iPad.
The iPad, Apple founder and CEO Steve Jobs said, "is a magical and revolutionary product," allowing users to surf the web, listen to music, and use photo, maps and applications. Users can download TV shows, music and movies and more.
And unlike the iPhone -- which does all these things -- "it's a dream to type on," Jobs said. At least some models will be available within 60 days, he added.
More details:
Cost: $499-$829
Battery life: 10 hours
Size: 9.7-inch screen with a full-size virtual keyboard.
Capacity: Powered by a 1-gigahertz AppleA4 chip, the iPad will have 16 to 64 gigabytes of flash storage.
The last word: The iPad is “so much more intimate than a laptop and so much more capable than a smartphone with this gorgeous, large display,” Jobs said.
