Season 10 of Dancing With the Stars is only a few hours away from crowning its champion.
In part one of the finale Monday night, the remaining three celebrities hit the floor with two performances each: a Redemption dance and a Freestyle dance. Tonight, each contestant will dance an additional round to be added to last night’s judges’ scores and America’s votes.
With the championship title so closely within their grasp, each couple took some risks in order to impress the judges. But along with greater risks came greater mistakes.
Erin Andrews and her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy's freestyle dance was described by the judges as “psychodrama unfolding”. Parts of the routine were sensational while others were lacking, and a little stumble led to a lower score for the dancers.
Nicole Scherzinger and Derek Hough took the biggest risk of the night, combining several dance styles together for their hgih-scoring routine.
Evan Lysacek and Anna Trebunskaya said that they could not agree on a dance style. Lysacek said he wanted something that “spectacular” the judges had never seen before; what they came up with left the judges bewildered.
The second dance of the evening proved to be more positive for each couple. Evan and Anna’s Viennese Waltz was described as a “beautiful, emotional, endless, enchanting dream”. Nicole and Derek’s rumba was said to be “Eroticism and romance woven into a dance of sheer beauty”. And Erin and Maks' samba was noted as “hotter than noon in the tropics”.
Each pair has two more routines to go. The action begins tonight at 8 EDT on ABC.
